It’s kind of crazy to think that it is actually race week for those of us signed up for the Wild Duluth 50k and Harder ‘N Heck half marathon.
I’m already getting some slight pre-race jitters, which I hope is a good sign, but who knows – my last race was a winter half marathon back on January 4th!
I will be interested to see how this race goes and feels as I’ve been doing much shorter efforts this year training for various distance time trails between 600-5,000 meters. Just need to tack on an extra 10 miles and add in a bunch of ascending/descending, so I should be fine right?!? 🙂
I’m actually surprised I reigned myself in because at first when I heard the 50k was going to be held I wanted to sign up for that, but figured the half would be a much smarter decision this year due to my lack of dedicated endurance training. Now that it’s race week I am not regretting that decision one bit!
It will be weird going off in waves and not racing everyone at once, but that just means we all have to push a bit harder because we will have no idea where things stand until all waves of runners are finished. Regardless, my main goal these days in races is to have fun, so that’s what I’m going to go out and do!
To everyone toeing the line in the half marathon or 50k this weekend (or both!) – good luck and enjoy the race…and remember to thank the volunteers!!
