Eat and Run: My Unlikely Journey to Ultramarathon Greatness by Scott Jurek got me really excited to go all-in on trail running!
This book was the final push I needed to: 1) make a transition to trail running, and 2) start eating more plant-based, whole foods. To say it provided a boost of motivation that has lasted to this day is an understatement.
The stories of epic racing and training situations he encountered/persevered through, an inside look at some of his personal life accomplishments/struggles, and a few of his favorite recipes that helped fuel his incredible running career made this book hard to put down!
On top of that, I was taking time off of running to get back to full-strength following an injury, so it was difficult at the same time…all I wanted to do was go for epic trail runs but couldn’t!
For those of you who are not familiar with his accomplishments, Scott is a seven-time winner of the biggest/oldest 100 mile foot race in America (Western States), holds numerous endurance records/course records, and happens to be from PROCTOR, MN!
This book is very well written and I appreciated Scott’s humor throughout. Maybe it was read from a Northlander’s point of view on my part, but I could definitely tell he was from the Twin Ports (in a good way)!
With the trails starting to dry up here in the Northland and the potential for races to occur this year, this may be the perfect book for you to read as Spring unfolds. Re-reading this book is certainly on my to-do list as another fun season of training begins to ramp up again!
In the meantime, I highly suggest you grab a copy of Eat and Run…enjoy!!
