While I am not a huge fan of the waiting around that takes place race week, I must say I am very excited it is here! I’ve had a really enjoyable training block following my demise at the Superior 50 last month. I’m feeling really good and can’t wait to push my body once again in a race setting!
My primarily solo time training in the woods allowed me to realize remember why I love running so much. There’s something so incredibly freeing about moving your body effortlessly (sometimes anyway…probably downhill) on trails or roads while thinking about everything, and thinking about nothing. Taking in the scenery, the smells, breathing in fresh air, getting your heart rate up – all things I take for granted most of the time. But this seemed to be top of mind during many of my runs recently.
I was thankful for great friendships as well. These are not to be underestimated as we navigate this crazy, amazingly-chaotic thing called life these days. Time spent logging miles together is a great way to forge new friendships and/or strengthen existing ones.
Ok, sorry for getting a little deep there, but it’s what was on my mind 🙂 I guess what I’m trying to say is, I really enjoy running with or without people, and I’m looking forward to trying a new race this weekend!
Even though I truly am excited for this race, I would be lying if I didn’t bring up the fact that I am also scared. I’ve had some bad luck in ultra events for a couple years now and would love to run this one the way I am capable of. I do think I’ve dialed some things in over the past several weeks so fingers are crossed!
To everyone toeing the line in the 50k, 25k, 10k, or 5k – good luck and enjoy the race…and remember to thank the volunteers as well!!
